Iowa Events Center
Internship
During my studies at Iowa State, I obtained an internship at the Iowa Events Center as their digital design intern. Listed below are the various projects that I completed for them.
Kane Brown Backstage Experience
For each concert or event in Wells Fargo Arena, graphics are created for the artist to experience and feel welcomed to the venue. I was assigned to create the back-of-house graphics for Kane Brown. My design was based on the artist's gift, which was a pair of Nike Air Forces, for the In The Air Tour (photo included below).
For this project, I created a sticker, a back-of-house poster, a welcome banner, and a commemorative poster for Kane and his crew to take after the show.
I was also able to take photos of the shoes within the arena, placed on the signature red seats. These images were later used to share on social media to promote the artist of the shoes.
Event Information Graphics
For each event, there was a need for event information to be posted in a clear and concise format for visitors to follow. These were called "Know Before You Go," or KBYG for short. Some information that needed to be included was when the doors would open, when the event started, the drink special of the night, bag policy, and parking information.
I created a template for the Iowa Event Center and for each event, this template was used. Inspired by the Bento style of design, this format proved to be better for visitors.
Luke Bryan Backstage Experience
For each concert or event in Wells Fargo Arena, graphics are created for the artist to experience and feel welcomed to the venue. I was assigned to create the back-of-house graphics for Luke Bryan. For this project, I created a sticker, a back-of-house poster, a welcome banner, and a commemorative poster for Luke and his crew to take after the show.
The inspiration for this design was taken from Luke's previous shows in Iowa, whether they were solo shows or part of his Farm Tour, where he performed at various local farms across the country. The design shows each location listed on a street sign, with stalks of corn in the background representing one of his lyrics, "Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey." The artist's gift included a custom bottle of whiskey to tie the theme together.
Drink Special Graphics
For each event, there would typically be a drink special dedicated to and inspired by the event. For each drink special, the design needed to match the style of the event. Because these would be posted in a variety of platforms, different file sizes were needed. Below are some of my iterations of the drinks and the events that they were created for.
Spotify Plaque Display
While at the Iowa Event Center, I was tasked with developing engaging visual displays for Suite 13. The project involved designing interactive graphics that highlighted artist achievements, such as highest-grossing tours or most headline dates. Users could scan a code on the display to access a corresponding playlist.
To ensure optimal placement and functionality, I created mockups and oversaw the installation process. This included collaborating with vendors to select the most suitable framing options for the frequently changing graphics.
TSO Backstage Experience
For each concert or event in Wells Fargo Arena, graphics are created for the artist to experience and feel welcomed to the venue. I was tasked with designing the back-of-house graphics for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, inspired by their tour name, "The Lost Christmas Eve." Drawing from the trilogy of their Christmas albums, I envisioned an attic scene from one of the covers, integrating lanterns that highlight key elements from all three. For this project, a sticker, a welcome banner, and a commemorative poster were created.
Social Media Campaigns
I was entrusted with the task of designing a range of social media graphics, focusing on various aspects to enhance engagement and information sharing. This included creating visually compelling graphics for campaigns, giveaways, awards, and hiring announcements. Additionally, I designed informational posts about artists, highlighting important dates such as birthdays. My goal was to produce eye-catching and informative graphics that effectively communicated the intended message while maintaining a cohesive and appealing visual style that aligned with the Iowa Event Center's brand.
Katt Williams Backstage Experience
For each concert or event in Wells Fargo Arena, graphics are created for the artist to experience and feel welcomed to the venue. I was assigned to create the back-of-house graphics for Katt Williams. My design was based on the origin of Katt's nickname, which was given to him by rapper Biz Markie, who noticed his quick wit and resemblance to a cat. I portrayed Katt as "taking over" the arena, in a comedic and lighthearted way.
For this project, I created a sticker, a welcome banner, and a commemorative poster for Katt and his crew to take after the show.
